BALLS TO THE WALLS AUTHOR QUESTIONS

BALLS TO THE WALLS
AUTHOR QUESTIONS
Here are a few questions about what went into the creation of my Erotica Series. Some of these questions were asked before so I thought I would post them in a blog. My back story is pretty boring. I’ve been writing since I was ten, mostly plays. I started out as a screenwriter then I started writing teleplays because I love TV shows. After people keep saying you should write a book I decided to write a book. I wrote some vampire and zombie books. Now I’m writing Interracial Erotic Romance Novels. I never get tired of talking about the characters in this series or what lead me to taking a stab at writing in a different genre.

1.      How did you come up with the title for the BALLS TO THE WALLS series? The first book was called LET’S PLAY BALL because it was about a little league coach. The series was named BTTW because of the first book and also because I was listening to Lil Jon and the Eastside Boyz song “Get Low” multiple times a day for at least a two weeks.

2.      How much of the book/series is realistic? The series is rooted in realism because I planned on it being relatable to woman. Mason is a made up person. The idea for the character came from a little league Coach named Jason. But the character is truly a composite of characteristics I would find attractive in a man. For example: he can build stuff with his hands, good at fixing things, physically strong, has a banging body, acts like a boss, has a career, loves kids, is insanely jealous, had minor flaws, arrogant, good in bed, nasty in bed, would scrap if the situation called for it etc. The character Jack came from a little league father that didn’t quite fit with the other fathers.

3.      What inspired you to write your first book? I wouldn’t call it inspiration but I was challenged by some co-workers. They refused to buy my books under my other penname because they were Vampire and Zombie novels. They told me if I write something else they would buy it. I took it as a challenge. I had no idea what to write that would appeal to them. I had several ideas that never took flight. So one day I was bored sitting at my son’s baseball practices and I said (in my mind of course) what if the Coach had an affair with a parent? It was just that simple. When I’m bored my imagination runs wild. During baseball practice I sat in my car with my laptop and wrote Let’s Play Ball and turned it into a series.

4.      What do you do when you are not writing? I read books, go to the gym, read books while I’m at the gym, get aspired by all the good-looking hard body men at the gym, watch a ridiculously obsessive amount of TV, watch movies, browse the shelves at discount/resale bookstores.

5.      Where do you get your book ideas? Dreams, life events, TV news, TV shows, pictures in magazines, stories from friends, coworkers and strangers. Mostly dreams and sometimes daydreams. A lot of people tell me secrets because I’m not judgmental.

6.      Who designed your book covers? I design my own covers. I love doing it and hate it also. If that makes sense. The worst thing about designing your own book covers is I can’t ever remember what font, tricks or tools I used the last time. I have to learn to do it all over again with every new book cover.

7.      What is the message in your books? I don’t think my books have messages because they were written for entertainment purposes. The BTTW series has themes. Book one is Temptation. Book two is Consequences. Book three is Pressure. Book 3.5 is Change. Book’s four’s theme is Choices.

8.      Do you have a specific writing style? I don’t think I have a specific style but I definitely try to incorporate drama, conflict, humor, sex and or love in all my books.

9.      What was the hardest part of writing your books? Not having enough time to write the books. There are only 24 hours in a day. I operate on four or less hours of sleep per day. It’s not ideal but regular life and my endless amount of ideas won’t let my mind rest. Another hard part of writing is proofreading and typos. My eyes refuse to find mistakes even after reading it for the fifteenth time.

10.  Did you learn anything from writing the BTTW books and what was it? I learned that some readers take fiction literally. I always viewed fiction as entertainment and a world of make believe. Some readers view fiction as fact and take the written word to heart. I also learned that there are a lot of readers that like my raunchy way of writing. They like me like a storyline that can not be predicted. I also learned that there is a huge fan base for interracial romance novels.

11.  What’s next after the BTTW series is over? I plan to work on some books in my other penname. I also want to finish one of the many stand-alone books that I started and never finished. I have about 20 unfinished books and that is not an exaggeration. But as far as BTTW is concerned I have an outline that consists of two more books. Free Agent was something I came up with because some readers showed an interest in the RJ character. I have no plans of writing anymore side books at this time. The next book is the BTTW series is Flag On The Play and it will be out in February 2014.

HATERS VS. LOVERS

HATERS VS. LOVERS
I am author Lolah Lace. I have a few things to share. So here is a quick blog entry before I type away on the next Balls To The Walls book. Life is a strange and wonderful place full of surprises. People are hilarious in ways that I can’t truly understand. Facebook is a riot. I have had to block a lot of fellas who feel the need to send me pictures of their penises. These pictures were spent to me before I even had an actual profile picture of myself up. I had my book covers up for months and only recently put an actual picture of myself on my profile. Well any who, I’m not sure why any man would flirt or send explicit photos to a book cover image but like a said, life is strange and Facebook is a riot.
Some people are strange and some are mildly disturbed. Yesterday I received a message from a Facebook friend, mind you I don’t know this person but let me continue. This Facebook friend (that is a black man) messaged me “lol I’m hating on the black women white men photos”. That is what he wrote. I’m not sure what that means exactly. I’m not sure what photos he’s talking about. I’m not sure why there was an lol at the beginning of the message. I’m not even sure hating is a laugh out loud matter. I’m not sure that being a hater is funny. I kind of think hating is super-sad, time consuming and unhealthy. Of course I didn’t respond to the message because I’ve lived long enough to know that people need attention, way more attention than I can give them.

Here are a few things about me. I am a single parent with two kids. I have two jobs. Writing books is the job that I love. The other job has health insurance. Well back to dude. I think it must be nice to have time to hate on anything. I barely have time to do laundry, mop the kitchen, do my hair, check homework, go to the gym, and change a light bulb. The list is endless when it comes to things I have to do. I get on average 2-4.5 hours of sleep per night. I’m much too busy to hate. Plus I wasn’t raised that way. I write interracial erotic romance novels. I believe people should date and marry whoever they chose regardless of race. Love is colorblind as far as I’m concerned. Maybe the guy that left the message was trying to be funny. Maybe he just wanted to get a response from me. I’m not sure what his motive was for sending me that odd message. Maybe instead of seriously or jokingly hating on anybody, I think we should all try loving on everybody.  In the words of People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive 2013, Adam Levine “I Really Want To Love Somebody” Now back to writing Bases Loaded.

WHAT IF BALLS TO THE WALLS WAS MADE INTO A MOVIE?

With the recent news that Charlie Hunnam pulled out of playing the role of Christian Grey in the film adaptation of The Fifty Shades of Grey Trilogy, it got me to thinking. What if my Balls To The Walls Erotic Romance Series was made into a film? Yeah this is highly unlikely but I’m sure most authors would love to have their books made into a films. We all want to join the ranks of Stephen King, J.K. Rowling, Stephenie Meyer, Anne Rice, James Patterson and recently E.L. James, just to name a few. Plus I’m still confused as to how Ben Affleck can play Batman when he was Daredevil. I had chosen my picks for Fifty Shades of Grey way before E.L James. I personally want to see Shailene Woodley as Anastasia Steele and Alex Pettyfer as Christian Grey and while reading the books I always envisioned Vanessa Williams as Mrs. Robinson. My choices will never happen but wouldn’t that make for a great movie?

So let’s get back to me and my musings. Who do I want to play the central characters in a film of my BTTW Erotica Series? I’m sure you would never guess my picks. I seem to think outside the box. Okay first there is alpha male Mason Rizza. My first choice would have been Channing Tatum but he’s just too young looking to play Mason who is 38 years old. So my next choice and I believe the most believable is Jai Alexander Courtney from Jack Reacher and A Good Day To Die Hard and here’s why.

1.      Dirty blonde hair and blue eyes

2.      Must look Irish and not Italian

3.      Muscular body-workout body

4.      Looks good with a beard

5.      Looks sweet but menacing

6.      Can play thirty something

Next up is Kari Fenderson. Hands down my only choice is one of my favorite black actresses. Who I believe is highly underrated, Bianca Lawson. If you remember her from Save The Last Dance then you know she is the truth.

1.      Closed mouth smile, full lips and freckles

2.      Light skin African American but doesn’t look biracial

3.      Looks younger than she is (Kari is 34 in the books)

4.      Sexy but can pull off girl next door

5.      Bond girl body

6.      Can get extra black (Save The Last Dance Clips)

Then there is Jack Unger, Mr. Perfect. I would pick Jason Lewis for what I believe to be obvious reasons. He was the Absolut Vodka guy on Sex And The City.

1.      Looks Swedish or German

2.      Resembles a human Ken doll (Malibu Ken)

3.      Looks successful and prettier than Mason

For the waifish mental wife of Mason Rizza, Tess Rizza I pick Emma Caulfield of Buffy The Vampire Slayer fame.

1.      Very thin body

2.      Thin facial features

3.      Can play a pretty plain Jane

When I write I try to give a brief description of the characters and let the readers imagine their own versions of the characters. I’m sure absolutely no one envisioned these particular actors when they were reading BTTW. I'm currently working on a book that features Mason Rizza's nephew RJ from the Balls To The Walls Series. Check back soon for another blog post. I should release it in about a week. Until next time. :-) Lolah Lace

TOP TEN REASONS I LOVE BEING AN AUTHOR

I’m sure I’m not the only writer that loves to write. I write all day long. I carry multiple gel pens with me everywhere I go. I bring my Kindle, laptop and iPhone everywhere so I can write. I still write notes on paper so I’m not sure why I need so many devices to write and type. I would feel naked if one of these things were missing. It feels therapeutic when I write. I have more stories than I have time. If only I could write fulltime and ditch my regular job. I envy writers that only write for a living. I hope to join them one day. So here are the top ten reasons I love being an author.

10. ANOMITY – I like being unknown. For example instead of being a fashion model I would rather be the photographer. Instead of being an actress in a movie I would rather be the director of the movie. There are only a handful of authors that are recognizable by name and face. I may write erotica but I’m kind of shy.

9. SPECIAL CLUB – Being an author is a special club. Not everybody can join. It’s a secret society. It’s like a fraternity or sorority that only a few can share with other likeminded brothers and sisters. Since I am a non-conformist this is one of the only clubs I will probably belong to so it’s pretty darn special to me.

8. COVER DESIGN – I am still in the beginning stages of my writing career. So I actually design my own book covers. Under all my pennames I have designed a total of twelve covers. Until I start making the big bucks I will continue to design my own covers. I like picking the photos. It’s time consuming but very rewarding.

7. THE FACTS – The facts are what I make them. I love that as a writer you have the right to twist the facts to suit your purposes. I can make things up and recreate history. That’s what fiction is all about.

6. ENDLESS CREATIVITY – As an author you have the right to let your imagination run wild without being labeled crazy. Authors can write about unicorns, zombies and it’s all good. I could write about sex with an alien and I won’t be put into a mental hospital.

5. MONEY – You may think that this should be closer to the top but at this stage in my career money is not flowing to a point where I can say I write to make money. I don’t make enough money to hire a cover designer or an editor. Although some of my titles sell more than others. I still continue to write books in the series that barely sell. I truly want to finish the series even though no one’s buying it. I love to write more than I love money.

4. READERS, FRIENDS – I call the fans of my books, readers. Readers are a huge part of the thrill. Without someone to read what you have written, it makes the entire process pointless. I love when people read my books so it is definitely one of the top reasons I love being an author.

3. REVIEWS – I love reviews especially the good ones. There is no better feeling then receiving a review within the first 12 hours of your eBook being available for purchase. No matter what the ratings are I try to look at the positive points in all reviews.

2. NEWBORN BOOKBABY – My books are like my babies. I feel like I pushed them out my womb and I love all my kids dearly. I love the feeling I get when I finish a book. It feels like winning a race or running two extra miles on the treadmill. I write to feel that special elation as much as possible.

1. BOOKS ARE FOREVER – Death touches all of us. One day I will die. My children will die and so on and so forth. But as an author I will leave behind my work. Surely I’m no Shakespeare but someone somewhere 100 years from now will pick up my book at a garage sale or off an old Kindle or iPad. My work will live forever and that is the best thing about being an author.

MASON RIZZA, FLAWED HERO

MASON RIZZA, FLAWED HERO

This blog entry is for the sole purpose of exploring the male protagonist in my BALLS TO THE WALLS Erotica Series, the fictional character Mason Lorenzo Rizza. This character study will give those who have already read the books an in-depth look at the ultimate Antihero and Alpha Male of the series. If you haven't read the books. You may be tempted to buy them and follow along with us in dissecting Mason's troubling and controversial journey.

Is Mason really a hero? Good question, I would say yes, he sure is. He is undoubtedly a flawed hero. Mason's blurs the lines between hero and villain. He is what I would call the modern day hero, neither good nor bad. He is both honest and deceitful. He has the ability to adapt to life situations as they arise. Coach Mason Rizza is what I consider a human hero. He threads in the place between perfect and imperfect. His imperfections are what make him human, relatable and sympathetic. He is that guy you hate yourself for loving him. As true with most complicated heroes, he is a product of his upbringing and environment.

A lot of the book reviewers label Mason as an Alpha Male. This is a term that adequately describes him. Mason is a dominant male (sole bread-winner in his family). He is the leader of his pack (the most successful of his siblings). By definition the Alpha Male is a persona of strength used to conceal ones deep rooted insecurities. An example of this is in LET'S PLAY BALL, Chapter 3.
"By all accounts Tess was a plain Jane. She didn’t even own any red clothes or bright colors. I had to admit I liked her like that. I never had to worry that she was going to attract a man. I’m never worried she would cheat on me. I know that this is my own insecurities staring me in the face."
Clearly Mason is aware of his insecurities but he buries them and tries to justify them by then stating.
"There were so many voluptuous, scantily clad, flashy women out there in the world. Tess was safe from temptation because I knew no guy would approach her. "
Mason fears being cheated on and the irony is he cheats on his wife. He even worries that his mistress Kari will cheat on him. He is enraged when he sees her talking to Jack Unger. A man who he believes is more handsome then him. Mason names his penis his evil twin. He does this to detach himself from the behaviors that he knows are wrong but are too ashamed to admit he has complete control over.

Within the series it is apparent that Mason hasn't been true to himself. Throughout his life he has tried to be more, better than, superior in ways and a good example. Not until he meets Kari Fenderson does he realize that something was missing from his life and that he has been pretending to be something he's not. With Kari he realizes he can say what he feels, be his true self and act on his hidden desires. The desires he has suppressed because of fear he would be labeled psycho, crazy or weird. Although Kari calls Mason "psycho", "crazy" and "weird", she uses these words in a context that is endearing. Kari gives positive connotation to these words and allows Mason to be these things without harsh judgments. Basically she loves him flaws and all.

Infidelity is wrong. Of course Mason knows this. He tries to justify his actions because he feels he is being a good husband and father. His perception is clouded because he is an over-achiever and a good provider. Without a doubt Mason is crude, vulgar, aggressive, arrogant, domineering, jealous and a bully. But is he that different from so many men we know?

The burning question; Is Mason prejudice? The answer is yes but not in a bad way. Let me explain. He prejudges people as we all do but he recognizes that this is a flaw in his character and constantly questions this behavior when it surfaces. His awareness of his inner thoughts and verbal statements indicate that this is something he dislikes about himself and that he is trying to improve. His honestly with his words and thoughts gives him reason to question his beliefs, to reevaluate his prejudices.

I wrote Mason as a real person not a robotic idealized image of a romantic hero. His is not the traditional lovesick man that says and does all the right things. Mason is meant to be a replica of many men that straddle the fence of good guy and bad guy. These men are sometimes overlooked and taken for granted. We all can agree Mason is flawed. He is an adulterer for the purpose of these books but he is likeable because of his many positive attributes. Mason is hard-working, ambitious, good with kids, fearless, loving, humorous, affectionate, generous, brave, adaptable and sympathetic. Some reviewers is this series wonder why Mason would stay with his wife. The answer I have is Mason feels a huge sense of loyalty. How can a cheater be loyal? His loyalty may not have stopped him from cheating but it made him honor his commitment to the marriage. You and I never know what plot twist I will write next so stay tuned. I try to keep it real but avoid predictability. I can't wait to write the next book. Make sure you join me in the evolution of Mason Rizza, flawed hero.

The third book entitled FULL COURT PRESS is due out in October 3013. I pushed another project back to work on the third book in this series. So with so long nights of typing I may be able to get book three out by September. As always I would like to give a special thanks to all the Amazon and Kindle readers for your book reviews. You can friend me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter.

LINE OF SCRIMMAGE

LINE OF SCRIMMAGE

I just finished my latest book in my BALLS TO THE WALLS Erotica Series. It's been out on Amazon in its ebook format for a couple of days now. At one point within the first 24 hours it reached #56 on the Multicultural & Interracial Romance Bestsellers List and it was #25 on the Hot New Multicultural & Interracial Releases. I finally cracked into the African American Romance Amazon bestsellers list at #99. I quickly fell off the list but I was happy to make it on the list. I am overjoyed with the sales so far. This means a lot to me because there was absolutely no marketing or beforehand advertising for my new book. I went out to celebrate the release with a friend and noticed there was already a few reviews posted. Here's what's posted.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Realisticly Good Read! July 18, 2013

I was unsure if I would enjoy Book 1, because I don't usually enjoy books that deal with infidelity. It was a pleasant surprise, because the story was so real. The attraction between the main characters was on point.

Book 2 was just WOW! I wish Book 3 was sooner.

I will not say much more, but I do recommend this series. This author is very talented.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read! July 19, 2013

Loved the second book in this series. Even though I am not condoning extra marital affairs, it happens. The author captured the real feelings that can come across in an affair. Not just physical attraction but emotional damage that happens to all parties involved. I wished the book was longer and can't wait for the next installment in October. Hurry Lolah and get to writing!!!!!

I love reviews!!! A few people have been asking about the paperback version of LINE OF SCRIMMAGE. I should have paperbacks of the new book in 2-3 weeks. I'm also working on a book trailer for this series. That should be coming soon. I plan to blog more often so until next time.
